Conference IT Solutions for Public Transport

With a significantly expanded conference programme, IT-TRANS – the International Conference and Exhibition on IT solutions for public transport – will open its doors for the fourth time in Karlsruhe, Germany, from 18-20 February 2014.

The 2014 edition of IT-TRANS will address the burning question of how to meet the requirements of smart travellers and their intelligent communities as well as, for the first time, security in public transport and its link to IT systems. A total of 11 conference sessions will be held, giving experts from around the world an opportunity to demonstrate how information technology is making public transport safer, smarter and more efficient.

The smart traveller

Today, public transport’s (potential) customers have an abundance of data, information and services available to them at their fingertips to help them make informed decisions, the best they can, at any time and all of the time. They expect a simple, intelligent but meaningful dialogue.

When a smart traveller gathers data but does not find the public transport offering, there is bound to be an alternative- they might choose a different mode, or change the location or timing of any planned activities.

The provided data needs to be relevant, complete, accurate and comprehensible, possibly with a high level of (impartial) integration. Above all, it needs to be accessible: long before, just before, during and after the journey- so online, on mobile devices- in addition to existing channels. There are good examples to draw on, but the next step requires a quantum leap. For the public transport sector, just providing trip information is not enough anymore- tickets must be purchased, delivered, and validated as well- from door to door, for inter-/multi-/co-modal travel, across borders and within multi-operator environments.

IT-TRANS: IT solutions for public transport IT-TRANS is all about technology! However, technology is often used as a tool to overcome the sector’s many non-technical problems. It helps solve traditional, political, financial and organisational issues by taking on their complexity.

Thus, to come anywhere near meeting the needs of the smart traveller, the public transport sector must find ways to provide and share data, information and services with unknown partners, without signing contracts with each and every one of them. The sector must enable ‘third parties’ to provide the portals and applications and implement the latest innovations and data sources on a variety of platforms for very different customer segments.

One of the axes to meeting the sector’s ambition of doubling its market share by 2025 is to make public transport people’s mobility mode of choice. Customers have ever greater quality expectations from providers in every aspect of their daily lives, from internet to gym memberships. Innovation is therefore a must and thus the raison d’être of the IT-TRANS Conference and Exhibition. Providing genuinely seamless mobility that offers connections, integrated information and ticketing and payment systems, is at the top of the agenda, although there is no one size fits all solution.

These ‘global’ solutions must be made bottom-up to accommodate the principles of subsidiarity (no one size fits all) but they still need to provide the necessary interoperability (for compatibility). They must be flexible and based on open standards. Other sectors, even outside the mobility domain, must also feel comfortable using the same structures to reach an optimum level of integration.

Along with the traditional cutting-edge ticketing and payment solutions that will be on display, exhibitors will also focus on seamless mobility in an IT- related Combined Mobility Village. The platform will demonstrate innovative IT concepts, trend-setting products as well as new business models for an intelligent combination of existing and future modes of mobility.

Mark your agenda With a reinforced conference programme and leading exhibitors and speakers from around the world, the 2014 IT-TRANS will be the ideal opportunity for the entire public transport sector to convene, learn, witness and exchange the types of IT innovations that will help transform the public transport sector into a veritable mobility solutions provider in the years to come.

I have been browsing online more than 2 hours today, yet I never
found any interesting article like yours. It is pretty worth enough for me.
In my opinion, if all website owners and bloggers made good content as you did, the
web will be much more useful than ever before.
